This is an e-mail I received from a woman I donated a Futon to. It’s amazing the impact you can make on someones life. I could have made $100 on Craigslist from the futon but the improved quality of life for this woman is priceless. Her letter to me several days later really hit home and made me realize how fortunate I am and how easy it can be to make a huge positive impact in someones life.
I can say without a doubt, no possession has ever made me feel better than the feeling I got from knowing this woman won’t be sleeping on the floor this holiday season.
I encourage everyone this holiday season to do whatever you can to help 1 other person that maybe didn’t get dealt all the right cards in life.

I would have contacted you before today but I had the flu.
Mr. Lazazzera, words can’t adequately convey to you how grateful I am for the generosity of your donation of the futon.
You have restored my faith in humanity & given me my dignity back.
We never know how important something so basic is until we lose it.
I have resided in same apartment building for 21 years ( market & subsidized units).
I lost furniture in 2005 & 2008 due to incompetence & arrogance of building management & owners.
(eruption of sewage pipe in building’s basement affected apartments above & other ways).
I was hit by bus as child decades ago & learned to walk again. Sleeping on floor last 3 years meant I rarely slept a quality sleep & suffered bouts of temporary paralysis more than usual.
The donation of your futon means ; (A) I have option to use as sofa or bed ,important as I had neither & my place approx 250 square feet.
(B) It also means thanks to all of you I didn’t have to spend my food money on purchase & delivery of a futon.
I will never forget that you took & chance on someone you never met ; I will pay it forward & assist someone when opportunity arises.
